CHAPTER EIGHT

– ALRIGO –

“It already happened,” Sisley flatly tells her brother.

The faint scent of blood enters my nose and I let my gaze travel over the room. It’s not coming from inside this room. I’m fairly sure it’s outside of this mansion and earlier I sensed werewolves.

A few of them are in this room with us but there’s a logical explanation due to the fact one don present here tonight is an alpha with his own pack and has brought three of his guys along with him. But I sense more than these four and that’s a fucking problem.

I wrap my arm around my woman and pull her against me. “We have more important matters to deal with. There’s blood in the air and werewolves outside are approaching the mansion.”

Renzo’s attention slides to his sister. “Can you reach out and do a headcount?”

I glance down at Sisley and watch how her eyes close. I can sense how the beating of her heart slows along with her breathing.

Her breath catches and her fist digs into my red tie when she glances up at me. “There are at least twenty werewolves outside and closing in. There could be a few more but some were moving close together and I couldn’t make out an exact headcount.”

Sisley did mention in our talks how her brother was the only one who knew a hint of her abilities and never judged her for it. But the familiarity of her brother asking for his sister to screen the surroundings rubs me the wrong way. It’s also frustrating enough she hasn’t shared the extent of her abilities with me yet.

“I have eight men waiting in cars,” Renzo offers but I’m already shaking my head.

“If they have only dealt with human business like you, they wouldn’t stand a chance.”

“I might have mentioned I dealt with human business but this doesn’t mean we lack skills to fight supernaturals. Our guns carry silver bullets, we are ready to fight,” Renzo says with determination.

“Foolish,” I grumble.

“Ugh, men. Could we please put a pin in the testosterone for a freaking moment?” Dahna sighs. “Lucan is outside and texted me to tell you to stay put and do whatever business it was you came here to do. His words, not mine.”

“I already had a word with the other wolfpack present here today. They don’t want anything to do with Hyde’s crusade and also mentioned Hyde hasn’t reached out to them or any other pack he’s been in contact with. He’s on his own and it makes him more dangerous. I didn’t expect him to be this close so soon and especially not here tonight. Tonight should have been about Renzo.”

“What about me? If you expect my blessing or–”

A low growl rips from my throat and I cut him off. “She’s already mine in every way that matters, the wedding will only be a formality which will happen soon.”

Sisley’s hand wraps around mine. “They’re fighting. I can feel them. We have to help.”

“No,” Dahna instantly replies as her eyes flash to mine when she adds, “Trust my brother to handle things.
